To enhance green development in Russia the Guild of Property Managers and Developers launched a special project, which was held for the first time at the International Investment Forum PROEstate 2010.

Aim of the Green Development project is to promote energy efficiency and sustainability, introduce green standards into the urban development, find solutions to existing problems of green construction in Russia.

“Energy efficiency and sustainability is an essential feature of the modern development, - says Pavel Goncharov, Director of the PROEstate Forum. - International community and business have been actively engaged in finding environment friendly solutions to the construction problems. However, Russian eco-development is at its embryo stage. For the successful introduction of green technologies it is necessary to develop appropriate legislative framework, standards and tools”.

Today it is difficult to get adequate information about the sustainability of development projects. In addition, the developers themselves have no understanding of how to integrate green standards into existing regulations and improve the environmental quality of buildings.

In the framework of the project GMD has held series of dedicated events: Business Showroom of innovative construction "Sustainable technologies in real estate industry" (April 2012), Business Showroom ¨Ecoevolution of real estate: Revolutionary innovations in practice¨ (February 2010); Conference "Sustainable technologies in real estate industry" (April 2011), events of PROEstate conference program.

Another important step in implementation of the Green Development project is Green Awards, the First All-Russian Competition on Sustainable Development and Energy Efficiency organized by the Guild of Property Managers and Developers and supported by the RF Ministry of regional development and Ministry for natural resources and environment.

Green development is a land use planning concept that includes consideration of community-wide or regional environmental implications of development, as well as site-specific green building concepts. This includes city planning, environmental planning, architecture, and community building. Green building is environmentally responsible and resource-efficient approach to a building's life-cycle: from planning to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and demolition. This practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability, and comfort.
